Legacy RefWorks: Exporting All References At Once

Exporting all your references at once is the fastest and simplest method but references will no longer be organized in separate folders

  1. Login to your Legacy RefWorks account
  2. Select References>Export from the drop-down menu in the upper left corner
  3. Choose All in List to export all the references in your RefWorks library
  4. Choose the Bibliographic Software export format option to import to Zotero or most other citation managers
  5. Use BibTeX format if planning to import to Mendeley
  6. Click Export references
  7. The exported references will open in a separate browser tab or window
  8. Use your browser menu options to save the output data as a *.txt file for Zotero
  9. For Mendeley, make sure you save the file as a  *.bib file not as a *.txt file)
  10. Give the file a name you will recognize (for example, Export.txt or Export.bib)
  11. Save the new file in a location where you can easily retrieve it during the import process (for example, desktop, downloads, etc.)
  12. Follow instructions for importing references into Zotero, or another citation manager of your choice.

Important: Only references will be exported from Legacy RefWorks. PDF files or other documents must be downloaded and reattached individually.
