Access Online Resources

The current Saint Peter's University students have full access to our library's online resources, both on campus and off-campus. 

Saint Peter's credentials are required for off-campus access. More information is available at our Off-Campus Access page.

Here are some quick links for searching information:

  • One-Search: a Google-like search box that allows you to search everything in our library collections via one search.
  • Journal Finder: a place to find a particular journal, magazine or newspaper.
  • Databases A-Z: a complete list of library subscribed databases, organized alphabetically.
  • Research Guides: a list of guides sharing the good resources for a particular subject/topic/course.

Borrow from University Library

Our Saint Peter’s University students may

  • borrow books (20 books maximum) for 30 days;
  • borrow CDs, DVDs, and video cassettes (3 DVDs maximum) for one week.
  • renew loans twice, if no outstanding holds or recalls on the material.
  • keep track of your borrowings via My Library Account.

Please notice that:

  • if two or more holds are placed on an item, the maximum loan period will be shortened to seven days.
  • reference works or periodicals are not available for circulation.
  • all materials must be returned by the end of the semester.

InterLibrary Loan

Can't find the needed resources in our library? We'll locate them from other libraries.

Generally, book/media requests take 10-21 weekdays to arrive, while journal articles arrive within 3 weekdays.

Borrow from Other Libraries

Saint Peter's University students can visit and borrow from other libraries via two reciprocal borrowing programs.

  • METRO Referral Card Program (for all students)
  • VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program (only for graduate & doctor students)

To apply for a reciprocal borrowing card, please file an application at our library reference desk.

Course Reserves

Your professors may leave books, articles, and other course-related materials at the Course Reserves for their students.

Location: behind the Circulation Desk of O'Toole Library.

Citation Help

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic software package that enables you to:

  • Organize and share your research
  • Import references directly from many data sources (databases, online catalogs, websites)
  • Instantly generate your bibliography in a variety of citation styles, (including APA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian)
  • Include citations (parenthetical references or footnotes) while you write your paper

It's free for all Saint Peter's students, faculty and staff.

Research Guides

Our librarians have compiled a series of subject guides, topic guides and course guides to share the valid resources in specific fields of study.

Computers / WiFi / Charging

Computers

  • Approximately 35 desktop computers for patrons use in the Library Lab, on the 1st Floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Feel free to log on to any available machine using your network log-in.

WiFi

  • Select SPU-STUDENTS from the available wireless signals on your laptop or mobile device.
  • When prompted, log in with your Saint Peter's username and password.

Charging

  • Charging stations for cell phones are available on each floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Some study carrels are equipped with power outlets that allow for laptop charging. 

Print / Copy / Scan

Print

  • Print from a library computer: select "Card-CALL Loyola Lib D333 Kiosk" as the printer.
  • Print from your own laptop/tablet/phone: use My Print Center. Select "Library_Lab_2_Printer" or "Lib_LIR_Printer" as the printer. 
  • Cost: 10 cents per page. Free $50 credit. For more information, check Printing by ITS.

Copy

  • Photocopiers: two on the 1st Floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Cost: 10 cents per copy.
  • Paper Sizes: Letter (8.5" x 11") or legal (11" x 14") . 
  • Need help? Ask Circulation Desk.

Scan

  • Scanner: one on the 1st Floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Cost: free to scan to your own USB drive.
  • Need help? Ask Circulation Desk.

Study Spaces

Personal Study

  • Carrels are available on every floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Be courteous to other patrons around you. Keep your voice down.
  • Please don't leave your personal belongings unattended.

Quiet Study

  • On the 1st floor of the O'Toole Library.
  • Keep silence. Inspiration requires concentration.
  • Food and drink free zone.

Group Study

  • Group Study Rooms: three rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor of the O'Toole Library. Reservation is required.
  • Group Study Areas: open spaces with white boards and supplies for group projects. First come, first served. No reservation is needed.

Workstudy Application

The O'Toole Library hires work-study students to

  • assist behind the circulation desk;
  • shelve books;
  • help with various library projects. 

If you are an organized, detail-oriented, and responsible individual, you may consider applying to be a student library assistant.
